Inlaid all-over with scrolling foliage, the sides similarly decorated and inlaid with 'pelter' shields, inscribed with six musical part-scores with their relevant composer - Sellengers Round - W. Byrde; Preludium - Joh. Seb. Bach; Allegro Thos. Augustine Arne; Air - G. F. Handel; Preludium - O. Gibbons, the cover centred by a similar shield inscribed Courante by Henry Purcell, the framework with label, signed JOHN BROADWOOD & SONS, LONDON, MEDIUM CONCERT GRAND, inscribed in the marquetry below the keyboard lid Johannes Broadwood/cum filliis/faciebat/1892 and T. G. JACKSON A.R.A./ARCHITECTS/DELINEAT and C. H. BESSANT/FABER/INTESTINAVARIS/ORNAVIT and stamped behind the keyboard lid 82364 J.F.HALDINE and A.PENN, on turned supports, joined by stretchers

Lot Essay

The present piano, inlaid with foliate marquetry, pelter shields and musical part scores, was designed by Sir T. G. Jackson, who, amongst other major projects, was involved in the interior decoration of George Gilbert Scott's landmark to the Venetian Gothic ideal, the Midland Hotel at St. Pancras Station.
