Lot Essay

The design of these wall lights is inspired by a group of ormolu wall- lights of the mid-1780s, attributed to Pierre Gouthière (See H. Ottomeyer & P. Pröschel Vergoldete Bronzen, Munich 1986, Vol. 1, p.241). A set of four were sold in these rooms 17 March 1993, lot 32 and a further set of six were sold at Christie's House Sale, Sacombe Park, Hertfordshire, 11 October 1993, lot 16.
