Lot Essay

Although belonging to the early 'Scratch-Cross' period of the factory's production, neither the shape nor the decoration of this piece would seem to be recorded in the literature. Those pieces which appear to be the most closely related stylistically are the mug dated 1754 from Dr. H.E. Rhodes' Collection, sold in these Rooms, 26 January 1960, lot 104 and the vase from the Rous Lench Collection, sold 30 May 1990, lot 454.
