Lot Essay

Meinz does not illustrate any Magdeburg pieces with Italian Comedy subjects. The iconographic source for the figures would appear to be the engravings published by Johann Jacob Wolrab in Nuremberg in 1722 which had already been used as a source of inspiration by Simon Feilner at Fürstenberg, see H. Morley-Fletcher, The Pfleuger Collection, vol. 1, p.128 et seq.
