Of conventional form, decorated in blue and white with a border of scrolls and pendant foliage, the handle with scrolling foliage and the slide surmounted by a princely crown and the monogram CS above a pitchfork and flanked by the date 1743 (the crown broken in two pieces and restuck, tip of orb lacking)

Lot Essay

This factory was founded in 1739 by a Prince Schwarzburg. The present lot is one of the few pieces that may be attributed with conviction to the earliest period, the crowned CS monogram and the domestic nature of the model suggest that this was made for a lady member of the patron's family
