The Agra Fort was erected by Emperor Akbar between 1565-73. While Akbar built the walls and gates, and his grandson Aurangzeb the ramparts and outer fosse, it was his son Shah Jahan, builder of the Taj Mahal, who erected most of the principle buildings within the fort including some of the finest in India.
