Lot Essay

Fine formal portraits taken outdoors, with indoor props including carpet and furnishings. Three bound volumes of The Life and Times of Queen Victoria are prominently displayed on the side table. The younger man is thought to be Udaibhan Singh (b. 1893), who succeeded as a minor in 1911 and ruled from 1913.
