Lot Essay

The Maharaja is shown in formal dress, wearing the Star of India, a Victoria medal and a jewelled portrait of the Queen on his headdress. Sir Pratap (Pertab) Singh (1845-1922), was Chief Minister of Jodhpur from 1878-1902, Maharaja of Idar from 1902-11, when he abdicated, and Regent of Jodhpur from 1911-22.
