Lot Essay

A fine example of Murray's work, in which he shows the juxtaposition of the grandeur of one of India's great architectural masterpieces with the newly-washed clothes drying on the riverbank in the foreground. The women washing can be seen as blurred dots alongside the river, working too quickly for the slow lens of the camera to fix their images.
