This elegant pattern of dining-chair, scrolled in the Grecian manner and carved with Gothic enrichments, typifies the fusion of styles introduced around 1805 by architects such as James Wyatt (d.1813) and popularised by the Collection of Designs for Household Furniture, 1808, issued by George Smith, Upholsterer to George, Prince of Wales, later King George IV.
