Each with a rectangular padded back, S-shaped arms and rectangular seat, one covered in pale blue repp material, the other in distressed red and white striped silk, on ring-turned tapering legs, brass caps and castors, one lacking back cushions, the red striped sofa with three back cushions and deep squab, the blue repp sofa with thin squab and two loose cushions, restorations

The red and white striped silk in which one of these sofas is upholstered, appears on several other pieces of furniture, including a pair of sofas with scrolled fluted ends and another larger one en suite, which were all from Cleveland House, 19 St. James's Square, London, and were moved to Raby Castle, Co. Durham when Cleveland House was sold and demolished. They were sold by The Lord Barnard, T.D., Raby Castle, Co.Durham, Christie's house sale, 10-11 October 1994, lots 40-47.
