Hénault was trained in Paris and active in Santiago from the 1850s. He worked with his French compatriot Claude François Brunet de Baines (1788-1855) (who founded the School of Architecture at the University of Chile in 1849) in Santiago on the construction of the Congreso Nacional, the Universidad de Chile (1863) and the reconstruction of the teatro Municipal before returning to France in 1872.
