Lot Essay

The artist was based in Hong Kong and produced illustrations for Ilustracion Filipina in the 1850s and early 1860s, including engravings of original sketches by Charles Wirgman (1832-1891), an artist who visited Manila in 1857 and whose work in Manila was engraved for the Illustrated London News in 1857-8.
