Lot Essay

The famous cave is situated in the town of San Mateo, a suburb of Manila in the foothills of the Sierra Madre between Montalban and Mariquina. As well as being a scenic wonder, it was used as a sanctuary by nationalist guerillas in the 1890s and by resistance fighters during the Japanese occupation in the 1940s.
