Lot Essay

This vase would probably originally have had a garlic neck and may well have had a Wanli six-character mark written horizontally around the lip. Cf. the very similar vase complete with neck and reign mark in the Baur Collection, illustrated in colour, Catalogue vol. II, no. A 203
