Lot Essay

This design is a very close copy of the unusual design found on Yongle dishes, known as 'lotus bouquet'. Although many such copies are found in the 18th Century, it is rare to find a dish bearing a Yongzheng reign mark. One such dish is illustrated by S. Jenyns, Later Chinese Porcelain, pl.XIX, fig.2; another, from the City Art Gallery, Bristol, was exhibited by the Oriental Ceramic Society, Arts of the Ch'ing Dynasty, London 1964, Catalogue, no.114
