Guo Hanshen moved from the People's Republic of China to Hong Kong in 1958, where he settled. In 1970, he studied at the Department of Fine Arts at the National Taiwan Normal University, and later he joined the Chinese University of Hong Kong, where he studied Chinese Ink Painting. Since 1978 Guo Hanshen has had many one-man shows and group exhibitions throughout Asia, Australia, the United States and Europe, amongst which the Contemporary Hong Kong Art Biennial Exhibition (1979, 1981, 1983), the First Choice exhibition in Hong Kong (1980, 1981, 1983, 1984, 1986) and the group exhibitions Modern Chinese Paintings of Lo Shan Tang in Hong Kong, Taipei and London (1988, 1989, 1990).
