A LARGE CHINESE IMARI CRESTED DISH
circa 1715
Painted, enamelled and gilt with two birds in flight amongst densely scrolling peony, daisy, lotus, hibiscus, orchid and rose around a central chrsyanthemum-head, the wide border similarly decorated and divided by a crest enclosed in a sepia roundel, rim chip
18¾in. (47.5cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

The crest is that of Tyssen. Cf. D. S. Howard, op.cit., p.178 for a similar dish in the author's collection. This is the only known service where the crest is displayed in this way.
