The arms on the larger are those of Valckenier of Holland; cf. J. B. Rietstap, op.cit., vol.II, p.968. The family were influential merchants in Amsterdam and held high offices in Batavia, serving the Dutch East India Company. Several different services bearing these arms are known to have been made, in Chinese porcelain as well as Japanese.
