In the early 17th century Venetian manner, 19th Century
The overmantel with architectural pediment, surmounted by a pair of reclining putti, above the tympanum carved to the centre with a cherub with outstretched wings and flanked by scrolling foliage, above a shaped panel carved with a scene depicting Vulcan's forge and flanked to each side by fruit trailing from a bearded mask, the sides surmounted to one side by a nude female and to the other with a nude male, on a rectangular base; the chimney-piece with rectangular shelf with foliate, egg-and-dart and dentil carving to the underside, the frieze carved in high relief, centred by a mask and flanked to each side by foliage and birds, supported on each side by a male herm wearing a loin-cloth, on a square plinth foot, minor losses and restorations
