The frosted gilt full-plate chain fusee movement with free sprung bimetallic balance, segmental weights, diamond endstone, blued steel helical spiral, mid range temperature compensation device, spring detent and Earnshaw escapement, the white enamel dial with eccentric 24-hour ring and seconds ring, outer minute ring with sweep centre minute hand, blued steel hands, the silver gilt engine-turned case with engine-turned band and large pendant ring, with hinged cuvette numbered 30679, casemaker's stamp EM, with a length of gold chain and ratchet key, movement signed and numbered

Lot Essay

Johann Christian Friedrich Gutkaes, Dresden, 1784-1845 was watchmaker to the Court, Master of Instruction and also father-in-law to Adolf Lange, the founder of the Glashuette watch industry in 1845. Only a few watches by Friedrich Gutkaes are known.
