Lot Essay

Fearnley travelled to Sweden in the summer of 1825 and on 28 June 1824 he painted a sketch of Vadstena Castle. In 1829 he went to Dresden to study under Johan Christian Dahl from whom he learned to 'paint from Nature'. Fearnley completed our work, the final version of Vadstena Castle, while in Munich in 1831.
