Lot Essay

An emblem of potency and power and symbol of the martial spirit, the cockerel represents the tenth year of the Zodiac. At the Grand Shrine of Ise it is regarded as a messenger of the Sun Goddess, and its crow at daybreak is believed to drive away the evil spirits of darkness.
