The blade 14th Century, the mounts 19th Century
The blade honzukuri, iorimune, large point [o-gissaki], slight koshi-zori, forging pattern tight ko-mokume mixed with ko-itame and some masame running through, tempered edge shallow notare in nie with some ko-choji and an abundance of nijuba, some kinsuji in the monouchi, ko-maru boshi with kaeri to one side, tang o-suriage with two holes, Mino Shizu style, 70.5cm.; encased in black lacquered saya, the upper part with ishime ground, all sword furniture iron Edo Higo with a design of foliage, iron tsuba chrysanthemum shaped, carved with tendrils and inlaid with bellflowers
