Murray arrived at Cape Town in early 1852, joined the Police and served at a number of Convict Stations, and later transferred to the Public Works Dept. The correspondence is addressed to his parents or his cousins in Scotland and has much interesting content: full typed transcripts are included, together with photostats of several other letters from the correspondence
