cover 1896 postcard from Holland, franked at 5c. and addressed to a passenger on board S.S. Norham Castle due in at Cape Town, card arrived in Cape Town per the R.M.S. Mexican (10.6 backstamp) after the Norham Castle had left and the local Castle Line office applied large boxed h.s. "TOO LATE/SHIP SAILED/Date...." with "6/6/96" inserted in manuscript, the card marked "Left ship @ Cape Town 3/6/96" and finally returned to G.P.O. where rare "Vaisseau parti./Ship Sailed." h.s. in violet was applied; some light creasing but an attractive item with rare combination of markings
