AN ANTIQUE DIAMOND CLUSTER BROOCH

The central cushion-cut diamond weighing 10.58 carats with a cushion-cut diamond surround and rose-cut diamond points, mounted in silver and gold, circa 1790, 2.2cm. wide

By family tradition given to Jane Baker, wife of Sir George Baker 1st Baronet, physician to George III. "Baker attended the Nabob of Arcot when he visited London and was rewarded with a large diamond from the Golconda mines which, subsequently, found its way into Maria Baker's possession. In her will she left it as an heirloom to go with the baronetcy and the estate, and the first recipient of it was her nephew, Sir George." (Extract from Waldron's unpublished biography of Sir George Baker).
