A fine Benin bronze figure
16th/17th century
Of a warrior chief, standing with an implement in the left hand, wearing tall waisted headdress, wearing leopard claw and coral bead necklaces, a quadrangular bell about his neck, the elaborate tunic with band of interlaced ornament at the hem and leopard mask with claws, extensive laterite patina, (lower legs and right forearm deficient)
