BOCCACCIO, Giovanni. Il decamerone...novamente corretto con tre novelle aggiunte. Venice: Aldine Press, 1522.

4° in 8's (191 x 126mm). Woodcut device on title and last page. 19th-century blindstamped maroon roan gilt, g.e. Provenance: Conte Francesco Riccardi Vernaccia (a note in his hand on an endpaper); G.C. Galletti (small library stamp on title-page); G. Cigerti and G. Fumach (bookplates).

THE ONLY ALDINE EDITION OF BOCCACCIO and, moreover, the most correct edition to date. It served as the exemplar for the famous ventisettana edition printed by Giunta in Florence, and in the Biblioteca Magliabechiana the printer's copy survives from which Giunta's shop worked. In the preface to Roberto Magio Francesco d'Asola writes that the text had been corrected and prepared for the press by Aldus himself. Gamba 171 'Molto raro'; Renouard 95/5 'Belle et très précieuse édition'.
