FIRST and probably only edition of this entertaining account of the carnival at Florence in 1567, written as a letter on the day after (Ash Wednesday) by the author to his godfather at Lyon. On the Sunday during the festivities Ceccherelli describes the christening of Leonora, eldest daughter of Francesco I, with the Pope as godfather and the Queen of Spain as godmother. The music, of which a full description is given, was by Francesco Corteccia (1504-1571), maestro di capella to Cosimo I. Gamba p.722.
