4° (198 x 144 mm). Printed in Roman, Italic, Syriac and Hebrew, title in Syriac and Latin printed in red and black, Widmanstadt's woodcut arms on final leaf. Contemporary vellum.

First edition of Widmanstadt's Syriac primer, containing a number of prayers and canticles, etc, printed with type prepared by Guillaume Postel after the hand of the Syrian priest Moses of Mardin, Widmanstadt's assistant. The primer is uniform with the Syriac New Testament of 1555. Widmanstadt (or Widmanstetter) was made chancellor of eastern Austria by Ferdinand, King of the Romans, who sponsored the production of this edition. Moss 154; Smitskamp Philologia Orientalis 92.
