Large 2° (470 x 300mm). Printed in red and black, woodcut initials and head- and tailpieces, four full-page engravings of the Evangelists by Vasilii Ikonnikov, Semen Nazarov, Aleksei Andreev and Stepan Iufimov after Petr Popov, Ivan Fedorov and Semen Vtorov dated 1766. (6 leaves loose, some leaves slightly browned, a few minor tears and wormholes.) Contemporary repoussé, chased and engraved brass binding over wooden boards, the upper cover applied with oval enamel plaques of the Resurrection, cornerpieces of the Evangelists interspersed with four scenes from the Passion of Christ (some wear to plaques, one lacking mount), the lower cover repoussé, chased and engraved with the image of the Mother of God flanked by the Prophets Samuel and David with Elijah beneath, three oval plaques of God the Father and the Archangels Michael and Gabriel (the latter damaged) above, cornerpieces, the spine with religious images (some wear at extremities, stitching weak), edges gauffered and gilt (lacks clasps). Provenance: inscriptions in Russian on verso of last leaf, one dated 17 March 1801. Zernova & Kameneva 1228.
