STRAUSS, Richard (1864-1949). Autograph letter signed to Sir Thomas Beecham, London, 29 October 1947, warmly thanking Beecham for the Strauss festival of 1947 and expressing his heartfelt appreciation of the performances of his own works which he heard, 2 pages, 8vo, (160 x 133mm.), (file hole punched in upper left margin not affecting text).
Strauss writes fullsomely of how honoured and pleased he has been by his reception and by the fact of the Strauss festival itself, the success of which had largely been due to Beecham's conducting. Strauss praises the three orchestras which performed and Beecham's wonderful interpretation of Ariadne, Elektra, Ein Heldenleben and Don Quixote.
The festival which Beecham organised in 1947 was critical in the immediate postwar acceptance of Strauss.
