Seated Youth leaning against an Urn, Plate 1 from Varj Capriccj (De V. 3; R. 29)
etching, 1740-44, a very rare (unique?) proof, unrecorded by Rizzi, before the signature on the urn, before the completion of the jacket of the boy at the left, and before re-modelling of the sleeve of the woman at the centre as well as other additional shading and burnishing, a fine, rich impression, with tone, trimmed about 2 mm. into the subject all round, two pinholes at the upper sheet edge, slight rubbing at the upper left corner, old tape staining and the remains of old tape at the reverse sheet edges, otherwise generally in good condition
