The salt-cellars with maker's mark of David Hennell, four 1751, two 1758 and two with maker's mark struck four times only, the salt-spoons, Edinburgh, 1868 and 1899
The shaped-oval salt-cellars each on four female mask, shell and scroll feet, applied between with foliate swags and with gadrooned everted rim, engraved with a crest and motto beneath an Earl's coronet, the spoons with shell bowls and female mask terminals, the salts-cellars marked on the bases, the spoons on the stems
The salt cellars 4in. (10.5cm) long

The gilding of the salt-cellars was almost certainly added by John Patrick, 3rd Marquess of Bute in the 19th century when the Victorian salt-spoons were added to the set
