An Apulian lekanis

The knob of lid with spoke design between concentric circles, the lid with two female heads in profile, each with curled hair bound in sakkos with ringlets down the side of the face, added white for diadem, earrings and hair fillet, between the heads two palmettes with white hearts and two dots at the top with small lateral tendrils, vertical rays around the rim, the lower body black glazed inside and out, (intact, pitting on interior); and an Apulian plate, the exterior black glazed with broad reserved band around rim containing meander frieze above line, central reserved disc on base, interior decorated with laurel wreath and circle, within which is a female bust in profile, she wears stephane and netted sakkos both with added white, and a necklace, pleated garment falling from shoulders, (repaired from two pieces, minor restoration on edge)
