An Apulian bell-krater, attributed to the Circle of the Snub-Nose Painter or the "H.A." Painter
Mid 4th Century B.C.
Side A: A naked youth or Dionysos(?) seated in the centre, his mantle fallen about his waist and wearing a radiate fillet, holding a patera in his left hand and a thyrsos in his right, approaching him to the right is a similarly attired youth, holding a thyrsos in his crooked left arm and a bird in his outstretched right hand, above them flies another bird grasping a dotted wreath, to the left a draped maenad holds a flaming torch and a situla, a rosette above, dotted ground lines indicated
Side B: Three youths in long himations, one standing to the left while the two others approach from the right with arm outstretched, one holding out a dotted wreath
Double palmettes and scrolling volutes under the handles with a frieze of meander and crossed-squares below, a laurel leaf band below the rim, repaired with restoration
