The squat hemispherical bowl on flat base, with inward-turned rim, a Chi-Rho engraved on one side

Lot Essay

The Chi-Rho monogram comprises the first two letters of the Greek "Christos". Cf. F. Fremersdorf, Antikes, Islamisches und Mittelalterliches Glas, Catalogo del Museo Sacro V, Vatican, 1975, pp. 90-91, nos. 844 and 846, pls. 55 and 57 where the symbol is combined with the inscription "VIVUS CUM TUIS PIAE ZESES" on a plain beaker in the Museo Arceologico, Cortona, and on two engraved bowls from Ostia.
