A Merovingian gilt bronze and garnet buckle plate
6th Century A.D.
Rectangular, inset with garnet oval, square and tear-shaped inlays, one corner missing, 2½ x 1 7/8in. (6.3 x 4.8cm.); a Medieval gilt bronze furniture attachment, of disc shape with separately attached raised border decorated with stylized rosettes, with six trefoil leaves radiating from the centre enclosed by arches; and another, similar, the central rosette surrounded by four trefoil leaves within cruciform arches, the reverse with remains of attachments, both late 14th-15th Century A.D., 1¾in. (4.7cm.) diam. av. (3)
