An Old Babylonian haematite cylinder seal
Circa 1900-1700 B.C.
With two scenes, one showing the sun-god Shamash, wearing horned headdress, resting one foot on a mountain and holding out a saw-weapon in his hand, being approached by a bearded worshipper holding an animal offering, behind stands a goddess with hands clasped, a sun disc within a crescent in the field, the second scene showing a suppliant goddess with hands raised in front of a king with an axe held in his left hand resting on his shoulder, a fish, a fly and a star between them, a one line cuneiform inscription reads "Shamash, Aya", the sun-god and his consort
