Each with laurel-garlanded urn-shaped body with upscrolled handles and flowerhead-filled guilloche-band surmounted by a pierced lotus-leaf domed lid with acorn finial, on an acanthus cup and a fluted and beeded spreading foot, on a canted concave-sided square base with flowerhead-filled guilloche-band, above a stepped plinth with egg-and-dart band and fluted oval medallions hung with laurel-swags and a lotus-leaf border

These perfume-burners relate to a design in Matthew Boulton's Pattern Book I, p. 171, illustrated in N. Goodison, Ormolu: The Work of Matthew Boulton, London, 1974, pl. 161, fig. r. A pair of this model is in the collection of the Earl of Bradford at Weston Park, Shropshire (ibid., pl. 134)

A further pair of identical design from the collection of Viscount Clifden, K.C.V.O, was sold in these Rooms, 2 December 1966, lot 73, and another 6 July 1995, lot 27.
