Lot Essay

Dr. Stella Rudolph, in a letter dated 23 July 1992, suggested a date (on the basis on a photograph) in the late 1760s.

Saint John of Capistrano belonged to the Reformed Order of the Franciscans and was a preacher during the last crusade against the Ottoman Turks in the 15th Century. He died as a result of disease carried by unburied corpses after the defeat of the Turkish Army at Belgrade in 1453.
