Typically modelled seated and decorated in overglaze enamels, wearing a full-bottomed wig, long buttoned coat and breeches, holding his hat in his lap and a lantern balanced on his left knee, the coat in pale grey and black, his features naturalistically coloured and the chair and spout of the jug in iron-red (spout of jug and tip of his nose restored, minute chips to fingers and flakes to enamels)
