maker's mark of John Tuite, London, 1739
Shaped-circular and on four leaf-capped scroll feet with shell, foliate-scroll and rosette border, chased with a band of shells, scrolls, foliage and diaper-work, the centre engraved with a coat-of-arms beneath a Baron's coronet, marked on reverse and engraved with scratch weight 116=17

The arms are those of Onslow for Richard, 3rd Baron Onslow K.B. (d.1776) High Steward of Guilford, Lord Lieutenant of Surrey and M.P. for Guilford between 1734 and 1740. He married Mary, daughter of Sir Edmund Elwill, 3rd Bt. in 1741 having succeeded to the title on the death of his father in June 1740.
