Elizabeth, daughter of Sir William Dormer, Kt., son of Robert, 1st Baron Dormer, was the first wife of Edward Somerset, 2nd Marquess of Worcester (d. 1667), the owner of vast estates in South Wales who was one of King Charles I's most loyal adherents. Their son Henry was to be created 1st Duke of Beaufort in 1682 and their daughters Anne and Elizabeth married respectively the 6th Duke of Norfolk and the 1st Marquess of Powis. The sitter's brother Robert, succeeded their grandfather as 2nd Baron Dormer in 1616 and was elevated as Earl of Carnarvon in 1628.
