A classical Landscape with a Soldier reclining by a Lake; and A classical river Landscape with Figures, a city in the distance

Crome was born and studied in Dublin. In 1755 he travelled to Italy and most of his works are classical landscapes in a style derived from Claude and Wilson, the latter of whom he briefly studied under. He exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy 1770-8.
