Butler Pall Mall' (lower left); the latter signed, inscribed and dated 'EMMA. or the Nutt Brown maid a Hunter./of Lady Mary Carr's. She was got by Mr Croffs Forrester./from a Partner Mare of Mr Pantons (?)/Taken from the Life at St. Helen Aukland/Thos. Butler Pall Mall. 1755.' (lower left)

Ralph Carr (d. 1788) of Cocken Hall, Co. Durham, married in 1753 Lady Mary Vane daughter of Henry, 1st Earl of Darlington. On his death, without an heir, his estates went to his nephew Carr Ibbeston.
