Lot Essay
An engraving of the former was reproduced in The Farmers' Magazine in February 1839, with the caption 'A Short Horned Ox/Bred by Sir C. Knightly Bt. M.P. [for Northamptonshire]'. This animal formed part of a lot sent to the Smithfield Christmas Market of 1838, the whole of which provoked universal admiration.
