Lot Essay

The sitter is known to have been in Rome in 1746 (information from the Brinsley Ford Archive, Paul Mellon Center). He was the son of Sir Thomas Saunders Sebright, 4th Bt., M.P. for Hertfordshire, and Henrietta, daughter of Sir Francis Dashwood 1st Bt. of Wycombe.
