SAINT JOHN THE BAPTIST, THE FORERUNNER

GREECE, 17TH CENTURY

The Saint shown three-quarter length, winged as the Messenger in a green himation over camel hair, his gaze directed towards a vision of an angel emanating from the celestial sphere in the upper left corner, a cruciform staff supported against his left shoulder and left hand holding an unfurled scroll, his right hand raised as a preacher, below his haloed severed head on a charger representing his martyrdom
